The Islands’ Religions Bali And Lombok

THE MAJORITY OF THE BALINESE are Hindu. Most of the Sasaks, the indigenous people of Lombok, practise orthodox Islam. However, permeating religious practice on Bali and Lombok are animistic beliefs and a sense of the supernatural. Ancient agricultural and mountain cults are reflected in temple and village architecture, and in rural rituals. There are Muslim and Christian minorities in Bali’s towns and coastal areas and a smaller number of Buddhists.
